Tonight’s Matchup: The San Francisco Bulls (17-22-1-5) return from a brief five day break to host the visiting Las Vegas Wranglers (22-19-2-3) tonight at the Cow Palace. This is only the third of six matchups between the two teams this year. The season series currently stands at 1-0-1-0 in the Bulls favor. The Wranglers won the first game back in November, 6-5 in overtime, and the Bulls took the second game in late December, 4-1. Goals from Dean Ouellet, Rob Kwiet, Alex Tuckerman and Peter Sivak gave San Francisco the win. In a game mainly dominated by the Bulls, tempers flared in the second period when Hans Benson dropped the gloves with Wranglers penalty minute leader Adam Huxley. The Bulls defense was strong, and held Las Vegas to 0-for-2 on the power play. Tonight begins a four-games-in-five-days set for the Bulls.
The Bulls look to bounce back after a tough loss to the Ontario Reign last Thursday at the Cow Palace. The Reign are currently tied for first in the Western Conference with the Alaska Aces with 69 points. Ontario led San Francisco 3-0 heading into the third period, both teams with 20 shots apiece. The Bulls began to mount a comeback, but goals from D. Ouellet and Sivak were not enough to overcome the deficit. Two more goals, including one empty netter, solidified the win for Ontario. However, Taylor Nelson still performed well between the pipes, stopping 24 shots and helping the team hold the Reign 0-for-2 on the power play.
San Francisco announced yesterday the return of Marek Viedensky from Worcester and Thomas Heemskerk to the active roster. In addition, goaltender Bryan Hince was released.
Defenseman Rob Kwiet continues his strong play for the Bulls, now leading the team with 21 assists. Scott Langdon continues his strong physical defensive play, and paces the Bulls with a plus/minus of +13. Cody Carlson is second on the team with a +4. Before joining San Francisco on January 14, Carlson had a plus/minus of even; he has since notched two goals and six assists.
Las Vegas sits in fifth place with 49 points, just two ahead of the Colorado Eagles with 47. San Francisco currently lies in eighth place with 40 points, continually in a battle for seventh with the Utah Grizzlies, who have 42.
Tonight is Wrangle a Date Wednesday at the Cow Palace! Participate in a speed dating event and watch a dating game during the contest. This weekend, when the Bulls host the Bakersfield Condors, San Francisco will wear specialty San Jose Sharks-themed teal jerseys.
