SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. – The San Francisco Bulls Professional Hockey Team, proud affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, announced today that center Torrey Mitchell has been signed to a standard player contract. Mitchell, currently with the Minnesota Wild, played the past five seasons with the San Jose Sharks. Mitchell is expected to practice with the team today and play on Wednesday, when the Bulls host the Colorado Eagles at the Cow Palace.

“The entire organization is excited about seeing Torrey in a San Francisco Bulls uniform,” said Bulls President/Head Coach Pat Curcio. “We know how much of a fan favorite Torrey was with San Jose. We expect Bulls fans to feel the same way when they see him play at the Cow Palace.”

Mitchell, 27, is in his sixth season of professional hockey. A fourth-round draft pick (126th overall) of San Jose in 2004, Mitchell has played in 280 career games with the Sharks, producing 73 points (30 goals, 43 assists) and 152 penalty minutes. A 5-foot, 11-inch, native of Greenfield Park, Quebec, Mitchell recorded a career-high 23 points (9 goals, 14 assists) in 66 games in 2010-11 with San Jose. He was a key component to the Sharks’ runs to the conference finals in the Stanley Cup playoffs in 2010 and 2011. Mitchell has recorded 11 points (2 goals, 9 assists) in 55 career NHL playoff games.

Mitchell has also played in 18 games with the Worcester Sharks, totaling 11 points (4 goals, 7 assists) and 37 penalty minutes. Prior to turning pro, Mitchell spent three seasons with the University of Vermont Catamounts. He finished first on the team in scoring in his final two seasons from 2005-07. Mitchell was named to the ECAC All-Rookie Team in 2005 with Vermont.

The Bulls take on the Colorado Eagles on Wednesday at 7:15 pm at the Cow Palace. It’s also a Get a Pair Wednesday game with 2-for-1 hot dogs. The Bulls then host the Eagles again on Friday for Country Western Night. The first 1,000 fans, 18 and over, receive a Bulls foam cowboy hat, courtesy of the San Francisco Examiner. Fans are encouraged to wear western outfits.
